My Writing Influence

My first experience with writing was with teachers when I started school. It was something I liked to do at first, even though I only liked it because I thought I was cool for being able to do it. Then later in life the writing assignments and essays came along. From that point on I hated writing, I would get angry and struggle when I was given a writing assignment. I absolutely hated writing and had plenty of reasons to back it up. I would get bad grades on any writing activity. It didn’t make me try harder, I just got discouraged and thought I was just a terrible writer. The teachers made me not like it and I was also very self conscious about how sloppy my hand writing was. I began to think I was never going to progress in writing anything. This really affected my self confidence and commitment with writing.

Now I am more comfortable with writing and feel more confident in my work.(Even though I still haven't solved the sloppy handwriting problem) I have improved and learned to enjoy it more. I wouldn’t say I’m necessarily good at writing, nor would I say that I am bad at it. I know that I would like to be better at it and improve on a few things. I want to work on many of my writing skills like organization and writing patterns.

I feel that I do my best work on the computer. I enjoy typing my work while listening to my music. Music helps me calm down and concentrate so I can work at my best. I can usually type a whole paper in one sitting depending on the length of it. If the assignment is very long I can work for a while before taking a break to maybe get a drink or stretch my fingers. These techniques seem to help me do my best work.

When it comes to presenting my work I am not very confident about sharing with an audience unless I feel I have done a really good job. I can handle teachers reading my writings because they can correct you and help you improve on things.

I can say my writing has improved and I have started to enjoy it more than before, but I know I still need help with it. I am hoping to have a better commitment to writing. I also hope I can like it more and not get stressed out in my future writing experiences.
